Hispanic Literature, Mass Culture, and Theory. A study of Hispanic texts thematizing the effects of mass cultural fictions (serial novels, radio songs, movies) on those who consume them. Fictional works will be juxtaposed with theories on the effects of mass culture and its relationship to canonical literature. Authors of fictional texts include Cervantes, Galdós, Marti, Borges, Marsé, Puig, and Martín-Gaite. 3 units.
