Traces the political rivalry between Spain and France in literature, cultural and political writings, paying attention to warfare, royal marriages, and the threat of piracy and slavery in the Mediterranean. Course explores these topics by looking at sovereignty, diplomacy, captivity, and slavery, while examining how these issues are registered in the political imaginations of Corneille and Cervantes.
