How has being a graduate from Duke's Romance Studies Department helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"The Romance Studies Department broadened by perspectives and real-world experiences to make me a better doctor and care more completely for my patients. I am able to connect with many of my patients through speaking their native language that allows me to improve the doctor-patient relationship and trust in cancer care."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Romance Studies programs?

"Challenge yourself. Go abroad. Even if you are planning to pursue a career in science, Duke's Romance Studies programs are invaluable. You have your entire lifetime to pursue medicine, engineering, law, etc. The opportunity to expand your perspective and exposure yourself to a completely different field of thinking is one you will not have again and one that will reap numerous benefits for your future."
