Class of 2027
Majors in Biology and Spanish, Minor in Chemistry

My interests center around the continued exploration of my primary areas of study: Biology, Spanish and Chemistry. I am an undergraduate researcher in the Baugh Lab at Duke, where I perform epigenetics research on the model organism C. elegans and participated in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship. I am also an Undergraduate Learning Assistant for Biology 201 and a volunteer with Duke Remote Area Medical, where I provide interpretation services between Spanish and English. Outside of the classroom and lab, my hobbies include running, reading and art. I am currently completing a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain with the goal of improving my Spanish. My career aspiration is to become a healthcare professional, perform research, and provide medical services in both Spanish and English.

Favorite Class: My favorite class at Duke was Spanish 490: African Literatures in Spanish with Alison Posey, which paired with Spanish 439: Global Spain with Claudia Milian that I took in the same semester. Both classes only had six students. The small number of classmates provided a perfect environment to explore previously unfamiliar content to understand what a "Global Spain" truly implies. Through this pairing of courses, I learned about colonialism, capitalism, and immigration in a multifaceted way that changed understanding of globalization and the Spanish language.
